Technical Help / Rear hub and sprocket
« Last post by Biggy on June 03, 2017, 01:34:56 PM »

I'd really appreciate some advice.

I have a Suzuki DRZ400E - UK registered (2001 model).

I need to replace the chain and sprockets and have hit a bit of a problem. The standard sprocket size doesn't seem to fit my rear hub as the spacing of the holes is very slightly out.

The measurements between the mounting holes on my rear hub are:

Two mounting holes directly next to each other 7.5mm.
Opposites (diametrically) are 15mm.

Is this the correct rear hub? Sadly the sprocket that does fit is not marked other than to state 45 tooth.

I am desperate to find the correct sprocket size so that I can get this brilliant bike MOT'd and back on the trail.

I have sought help via a forum and posted pictures of the current (unmarked but fitting) sprocket and hub:

I'd really appreciate some advice so I can get back on the trail!

Thank you.
General Discussion / Wide ratio gears in the transmission

Hello I am new to the forum. I'm interested in the Suzuki DRZ400. There are so many thoughts on which bike is right (overall) and it appears it's probably the DRZ400. I see where a company named ACT makes wide ratio gears for the bike which at face value seems like a good upgrade. Has anyone done this to their bike ? What's your opinion on the gear change and how many miles have you ridden ? Thanks in advance.

SM wheels? Maybe plastics if you have them.

The clutch and kickstand switch can be removed as long as the wires coming from them are connected together. I would start in the headlight wiring to the clutch switch and make sure they are connected and did not come apart. This wire in itself should not cause everything go dark, If the battery and fuses are good than there has to be a loose connection someplace. Are the pos+ and neg- on your battery cables tight at both ends? A loose cable on the battery could cause your problem.

Just joined forum, 67 and had DRZS for 7 years, always pleased with it. Only problem is when I stop have to plan which foot to plant and shift arse to that side. If it goes wrong I fall off.I should be taller or wear high heels.
Technical Help / Electrical system died in Mid-start up process

Hi! My first post here, unfortunately with a problem. I went to fire up Suzuka-saki KLX400 for the first time this spring. Installed the fully charged battery I'd kept trickled in my semi-heated garage and pushed the electric leg button. It turned over a few Revolutions and everything went black. No dash lights, no nothin'! I visually checked the fuse and with a VOM just to be sure. Removed the tank and headlight nacelle and checked out the wiring. There is voltage to the key switch. I now see the Clutch switch has been removed.
Trying to familiarize myself with the shop manual. Printed off the switch schematics and it appears that the key switch is first in line, So I'll have to figure out what other switches (like the sidestand?) might effect this process.  Thought I'd ask here, just in case this is a known issue? Your trouble shooting suggestions would be helpful and appreciated!

Sorry, site won't let me post any more in one reply.  So, I'm going to have to resize each picture and squeeze them in here through several posts.  I do apologize.

Made a few changes cosmetically along with a rear rack that a member on here made and powder coated for me.  He also powered a few other parts as well.  He has an ad up on the DRZ Parts for sale.  Take a look, you will not be disappointed at all.  Great quality and definitely a pleasure to deal with.
