65 years old and bought a DRZ 400s
« on: August 11, 2016, 05:03:45 PM »
I live in western Massachusetts, i'm retired and have decided I want to travel the hundreds of dirt roads that are in my area.  I bought a 2012 DRZ 400 Sunday and am looking forward to spending time on it.  I used to ride street bikes 30 years ago so this is all new to me.   I appreciate this forum and anticipate asking many questions.
Best regards,

Ralph

I'm 53 and have just bought a 400E for the very same reason down here in New Zealand's south island
I've been riding road bikes for over 30 years but I've found out very quickly, riding on dirt/gravel/ hard packed mud
is a whole new ball game. Take it easy and learn the skills required, some of the guys you see make it look a lot easier
than it is.

I just got a 2013 DRZ 400S 2 weeks ago for the same reason except I'm in the Ozarks of northwest Arkansas. I've insatlled rear lowering links and lowered the front forks. I'll be 69 in 10 days. I used to ride motocross, trails and some street about 20 years ago.
Stay fit and enjoy life,

  Rick

Good for you!
I'm 60 and just sold my Yamaha YZ250F  and BMW K1200RS (I wasn't mature enough for that kind of power).
Now I'm on an 09 DRZ-400S and loving it...much tamer and predictable power.  I'm over by Syracuse, maybe I'll truck
over to Mass sometime and we can ride those back roads...

55 here, had about fifty different bikes since I was 16, two strokes and four strokes, this is my first ride on a drz400 and must admit I love riding it, it has supermoto wheels at the moment but just changing them back to 18s and 21 inch, bike has enough power and torque to get you out of trouble, lost my lower left leg in a motorcycle accident at the age of 32 but still ride, nice bike for green lane riding in sunny Gower area of the UK. :D

Well I'm just a bit younger than you guys (49 this year) but working my way up.  I picked up a 2017 DRZ 400SM in February.  Had a few bikes in the past, have a few off-road vehicles now as well.  Had a 2005 Genuine Stella scooter for the past 12 years that I used to go back and forth for work and around the house but wanted to change it up a bit.  So, I picked up the SM and i think that I'm going to be very happy with it.  Super excited right now but with this crazy Chicago weather, I have had only 2 opportunities to ride the darn thing.  Hoping for better weather to come.  Unfortunately, I don't have some of the same riding conditions that some of you guys have to really see what this bike can do.  For me, it will be more of city streets and some highways.  But, I'm not complaining, could be worse.

Just joined forum, 67 and had DRZS for 7 years, always pleased with it. Only problem is when I stop have to plan which foot to plant and shift arse to that side. If it goes wrong I fall off.I should be taller or wear high heels.

I'm 61 here in NE Oklahoma.  Bought a 2003 400S a few years ago to explore the gravel back roads.  Haven't had time to do much of that yet, but I have recently retired.  My other Suzuki is a 2004 650 V-Strom.  Good luck with your plans to ride.
