Potential first bike.
« on: June 19, 2011, 04:49:08 PM »
I recently came across the following ad. I've wanted a DRZ as a first bike and the price is right on this one (at least in my opinion). I'm a little worried because the bike has been modified and I rarely see one at such a great price. Are there any red-flags here? Anyone have any advice? I have requested photos from the seller but have not received them yet. Here is the ad:

I have a 2006 DRZ400 that started life as a "SM".
The original owner took the stock hubs and had them laced to Excel rims in the stock "S" model sizes.
So now it's a "SM" with 21" front and 18" rear but it's MUCH nicer than trying to just put stock "S" wheels on an "SM.
Trust me, I've tried that.
Everything works with this conversion.
Stock speedo, brakes, spacers, etc.
4,250 miles.
I have my eye on something else so it needs to go and I already have a "S" and an "SM".
It's clean and ready to rip.

As long as the wheels were professionally laced I don't think there is much to be concerned with besides the obvious differences between the s and sm. shorter front fender, larger front brake rotor. Speedometer might be off if not re-calibrated for 21 inch wheel.

Let us know how it works out. Hope that helps.
